Founded in the Fall of 2004, and based in Houston, Texas, MYBA is a work in progress that began with an idea that since the game of basketball has such a broad and popular appeal amongst Muslim youth, organized, competitive basketball could be a means of harnessing scattered resources in an effort aimed at developing in Muslim youth:
- high moral character, individual responsibility, and integrity
- fraternal bonds of kinship that transcend ethnicity, culture, and socio-economic status
- physical fitness, teamwork, and leadership skills
- tolerance and appreciation for the unique contributions of others
- the yearning to love Islam, to respect it's principles, and to faithfully adhere to the commandments of Allaah (swt) and His Messenger (saaws) on and off the basketball court.
